BRIEF PROFILE

Dato’ Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin, (LLB (Hons.), MCL, DSLP, Ph.D) is a Professor at the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. She had published 16 books and advocates extensively in the area of Comparative Family Laws and International Women’s Rights. She has conducted numerous applied research mostly related to contemporary issues on Islamic Family Law, served as consultant for various non-governmental organizations, Government Ministries and agencies at national and international level. She actively participated in various international academic networks.

She was the Dean of Postgraduate Studies (2003-2005) and Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (2006-2009) before being seconded as the Deputy Director General at the Institute of Islamic Understanding,
Malaysia. She was a member of Board of Governors for Asian Law Institute, advisor of the IIUM Law Journal, still an active member of the Editorial Board of International Journal of Muslim Unity and recently appointed as one of the international board of editors for Journal on Ethics, Legal and Governance. She also serves as a member of
the Malaysian Investigating Tribunal Panel, Advocates and Solicitors’ Disciplinary Board Committee and Panel Evaluator (Law Programmes), Malaysian Qualifications Agency. As a member of the Selangor State Council of Religious Affairs, she actively participates in the Legal Committee, the Fatwa Committee and heads the Family Development Committee. She also serves as a member of the Technical Committee on Shariah and Civil Laws, Department of Islamic Advancement of Malaysia (JAKIM) under the Prime Minister’s Department, and a member of the National Religious Council. She is a committee member for the National Women Advisory Council under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and a member of the Technical Committee for the NAM
